Salem 2 cycle 4 cycle Shootout Engine Rules 2010


The spirit and intent of the following rule set is to equalize the listed base engine packages for the purpose of competitive racing and focus on driving skill, engine and chassis tuning ability. Race and Tech Directors reserve the right to penalize anyone found to be blatently disregarding this spirit and intent.

2 Cycle
1. Allowable Engine: KT100s, new or old Cylinder ok. Single Engine only.
2. Base weight is 270lb. Add 1lb for every 1 cc or fraction of a cc. This will make minimum weight for kart and driver 370lb.
3. Race Gas only no methanol. Must test negative on Digitron and test .775 with Hydrometer. Absoulutly no fuel additives such as Nitro or Oxygenators.
4. No Reeds and single Carburator only. No forced injection.
5. Cylinder must have stock porting. Exhaust port opening 1.155 ATDC. Intake port opening .775 ATDC.
6. Cylinder head is non-tech.
7. Exhaust pipe is non-tech, except must have commonly accepted silencer.
8. Stock crank
4 Cycle
1. Allowable Engine: Briggs and Stratton Animal, Raptor II or III, Yamaha F200. Single Engine Only.
2. . Base weight is 288lb. Add 1lb for every 2.5 cc or fraction of a cc. This will make minimum weight for kart and driver, Animal 370.4lb.Methanol Only, F200- 360lb Gas Only, Ltd Mod Flathead 350lb Gas or Methanol
3. No fuel additives such as Nitro or Oxygenators. Subject to water test.
4. Single Carburator only. HL Tillotson, Zama WIT820 or Walbro PZ 22. Venturi .900” no go. No forced injection.
5. Intake manifold non-tech except no atomizer intakes.
6. Flywheel: Briggs Billet or PVL flywheel with plastic fins only.
7. Any camshaft, lifters, retainers, valve springs, keepers allowed. Max lift .310”. Max valve lift .307” taken directly off the valve retainer at zero lash. Max Duration at .050”-248 degrees. Max duration at .200-153 degrees with zero lash.
8. Push Rods: Stock diameter .185” to .190” Length is 5.638” to 5.656”.
9. Rocker Arms: Stock Animal or World Formula only, no mods. Minimum length is 2.865”.
10. Valves: Stock Animal or World Formula only. One angle, no polishing or lightening.
Intake: Valve face 45* face, head diameter 1.055”- 1.065”. Depth of dish in valve .099”-.119”
Exhaust: Valve face 45* face, head diameter .935”- .945”. Depth of dish in valve .084”-.104”.
11. Cylinder Head: Non-tech. Except combustion chamber to be stock shape. No minimum floor depth.
12. Valve Seats: Stock Briggs Seats only. Intake seat diameter .966”-.972” Exhaust seat diameter .844”-.850”.
13. Porting: Allowed but no welding or additional material in ports. Valve guides may be replaced with bronze inserts. Intake Port .918” no-go, Exhaust Port .980” no-go.
14. Crankshaft: Stock Briggs and Stratton crank with stock timing gear installed in stock locations only. Crank Journal Diameter 1.094”—1.100”.
15. Briggs and Stratton Breather assembly #555688 allowed.
16. Exhaust pipe is non-tech, RLV silencer mandatory either B91 or B91MO.
General Rules
1. Tires are open. Tire Prep is allowed but is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN AT THE TRACK.
2. No Gearbox Engines.
3. Front, side and rear number plates mandantory. Scoring Personell must be able to read numbers. If they can't read them you won't be scored.
