Tire Saturday and Track Clean Up April 25th at MAC Track

PKA needs your help. The tire trailer is at the MAC Track and we will loading up as many tires as we can to clean up the MAC Track. We will be working on several other projects Saturday April 25th starting at 9:00AM - 5:00PM. The Master Gardeners will be holding their annual Plant Sale from 9:00AM-12:00PM and we hope to help them with the parking. We will be moving last years hay bales over to where the tires were in Turn 1. We will be installing 36 new Scribner Barriers recently purchased with Donations from our friends, businesses, and members of PKA. Help us achieve our 2009 goal of purchasing 200 barriers.

We will be purchasing and bagging approx. 100 new bales of straw for the rest of the corner turn areas. Bring your weed eaters, gloves and rakes shovels  as we will clean some of the weed and make the track ready for mowing throughout the year.

Do you have a tractor we will also work on the drain line for he overflow at the pond by turn seven.

Please see the upcoming newsletter for more information or give any of the PKA BoD's a call to help us make our track better for everyone.

SAFETY BARRIER FUND UNDERWAY

PKA's Safety barrier fund is underway and the during the March Club meeting PKA received funds from club members for over 12 barriers. At this time we have a commitment for over 20 barriers with PKA's goal of purchasing approximately 200 additional barriers to provide a clean and safe areas at the MAC Track. Hay bales work well and PKA will continue to use bales till sufficient barriers can be purchased replace all of the bales and tires at the MAC Track.

At this time PKA is expecting to pick up a couple dozen barriers during the March spring break to replace some of the hay bales along Lafayette Boulevard. We have room on the trailer to transport 40 barriers and would like to get donations to fill the trailer to reduce the cost of the transportation.

PKA will be constructing a Sign to acknowledge those contribute to the fund and placing it near or on the Scales Shed to show appreciation to all those who contributed to the fund.

The Scribner Plastic Barriers cost $75.00 each.

If you would like to to contribute to the safety barrier fund please contact any PKA Board Member or Officer or call Mike Schorn at 503-324-9072.

2009 Road Race at Grass Valley ORP Cancelled!!

On Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at the PKA Club Meeting the PKA Board of Directors made the decision to cancel the Road Race at Oregon Raceway Park in Grass Valley, Oregon on May 2, 2009.  This was a particularly hard thing for the present PKA Board that is mostly road racers or crossover road racers.

The PKA Board had established in previous Board meetings that to have adequate time to properly prepare for a road race at this new facility a contract needed to be signed and in place two months before the scheduled event,   On February 19, 2009 was the first time the PKA Board saw the Oregon Raceway Park contract for their review.  After a complete review of the facility rental contract it was determined that the wording of the contract that we received would potentially cost PKA more than the PKA Representative had estimated and track time would be less than previously understood.  The rental contract required a 40% non-refundable deposit on April 2nd and to date there were too many issues that needed to be resolved before the PKA Board was prepared to commit the Club’s money to this event.

Oregon Raceway Park is a brand new race track that has not been sanctioned by any racing organization or approved for any insurance company.  The race track does not have any turn stations, scoring tower, electricity or water.  Since this is a new facility, the total number of turn workers is not known.  All of these items would require more time than PKA had available.

The SCCA turn workers that we appreciate so much at Portland International Raceway will not be available for this race due to a prior commitment at PIR.  There were numerous attempts made to find other turn workers and to date there were not enough qualified turn workers committed to this race.

The PKA Board of Directors would like to thank John Sullivan for all his efforts as the PKA Representative working with Oregon Raceway Park.  This was a project that John volunteered to do prior to being elected to the PKA Board of Directors this year.  John will continue to work with Oregon Raceway Park on planning an even greater road race in the 2010 season.

TIRE SUNDAY POSTPONED!!!

PKA was informed today that the trailer that was scheduled to be delivered Friday March 6 for the Tire Sunday clean up will not be delivered. John Sullivan Tire Sunday coordinator said a trailer scheduled for the date and when confirming was informed that the trailer could not be delivered for the March 7th weekend. John at this time is working with the tire disposal company to coordinate another date that will work for the club and tire company.
Stay tuned for more information and a new Tire Sunday Date.
